Ms. Asang has been working with SJCC since June 2013. She provides counselling and mentoring support to students at SJCC on a regular basis. Besides, the regular counselling sessions with the students, she conducts HRD (Human Resource Development) classes on topics like importance of counselling, peer pressure, fear/anxiety, addictions, emotions, grief, relationships and anger management. In addition to these, Ms. Asang is entrusted with the responsibilities of monitoring the regularity of students and keeping a track of their academic performance. She also interacts with parents whenever necessary.

Ms. Asang is involved in the admission process of students and is a part of the organising committee for events such as the Graduation and College Day.

She accompanies students for industrial visits and during outreach activities.

Ms. Asang worked as a Treatment Outreach Coordinator in the Access to Care and Treatment (ACT) Project and the Global Fund for HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM R-4). The project was carried out by the Dimapur-based NGO, Dimapur Network for people living with HIV/AIDS from May 2006-2007.

She joined the Bangalore Baptist Hospital in May 2007 as a trainee for Diploma in Clinical Pastoral Counselling. The hospital is a unit of the Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore and is recognized for the Diplomate National Board of Examinations, New Delhi. With its 300 plus beds, acute care, secondary level facility, it served approximately 160,000 outpatients and 14,000 in patients annually.

As a trainee, at the hospital, Ms. Asang was entrusted with various responsibilities. She visited patients daily, interacted with them, and counselled them. She attended to emergencies such as major road traffic accidents, deaths. She visited patients who were scheduled for surgery to allay their anxieties and encouraged them. She interacted and counselled persons with HIV/AIDS, and those on suicide-watch. As part of her research project for the diploma, she focused on people with HIV/AIDS and completed her thesis on ‘Mother-to-Child-Transmission (MTCT) of HIV/AIDS: Implications for Pastoral Care and Counselling’ in 2008.

Ms. Asang worked as a Chaplain/ Counsellor at UMC hospital Kissy, Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa from September 2008 – May 2009. The work mainly included maternity and primary health care. She conducted counselling sessions for people struggling with teenage pregnancy, bereavement and family support. She also counselled patients with disfiguration of body image due to severe burns, HIV/AIDS patients and provided psycho education on hygiene/health care.

From July 2012-May 2013, she worked as a part time student counsellor at Mount Carmel College Bangalore and then joined SJCC.
