About the Department

The Department of Professional Programmes at St. Joseph’s College of Commerce (Autonomous) offers a distinctive and innovative model of higher education, seamlessly integrating undergraduate B.Com and BBA degrees with globally recognised professional qualifications. The department features five flagship programmes: B.Com (International Accounting and Finance) integrated with ACCA curriculum, B.Com (Professional – Strategic Finance) integrated with US CMA qualification, B.Com (Analytics) delivered in collaboration with the Institute of Analytics (IoA), UK, B.Com (Accounting and Taxation) with a comprehensive CA-integrated curriculum, and BBA (Professional – Finance and Accountancy) in collaboration with AICPA & CIMA - CGMA qualification.

The department is further strengthened by the support of the learning partners—International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC), Miles Education, JK Shah Classes, and the CFA Institute—ensuring high-quality, industry- relevant training and global exposure.

The curriculum and pedagogy are rigorous, industry-aligned, and future-focused, enriched through strong industry collaborations, immersive activities and events, certification-driven learning, and a dynamic and vibrant association ecosystem, including associations such as Erudition and Spectrum.

With an aim to form industry-leaders with competence and conscience, the Department offers a dynamic portfolio of industry-integrated programmes. Our embedded courses in collaborations with Institute of Analytics, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Institute of Management Accountants, and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, provide expert coaching and globally recognized certifications.

Erudition

The Erudition Association was formed to promote the case study culture among the students of the Department of Commerce by providing real life scenarios and situations, and thereby improves their application of theoretical knowledge learnt in the classroom, helping them to adapt and think quickly and efficiently. The association was formerly a National Level Case Study Competition formed in the Academic Year 2017-2018 and converted into an association in the Academic Year 2018-2019. The case studies cover diverse topics from accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, current affairs and popular case studies used by different professional bodies, agencies and corporations to enhance quick logical and practical reasoning. Student members of Erudition are guided on the essentials to be understood in terms of tackling of case studies, formulating the solutions to the case provided and professional presentation of the solution with clear thought and ample supporting proof with adequate application of principles and laws from the commercial world.

Objectives

  • Provide insights about the challenges and rapid changing nature of the business environment and test the decision making and problem solving skills of the students in the Department.
  • To help students to gain feedback and advice from eminent Industrialists on their problem solving techniques.
  • To allow students to explore and examine areas of the economic and commercial spheres such as taxation, accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, environmental laws, public reporting and many others.

About the Association

Spectrum is the student-driven association of the B.Com (Accounting and Taxation), a CA Integrated Programme, serving as a dynamic platform for academic, professional, and fine arts engagement. It organizes a diverse range of activities including business events, skill-based workshops, and career building guest lectures to enhance practical learning. The association aims to nurture well-rounded individuals equipped with industry-relevant skills and a collaborative mindset.

Objectives

  • To bridge the gap between academia and industry by organizing guest lectures, and networking opportunities with professionals, enabling students to build career-oriented competencies.
  • To foster creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking through a blend of fine arts events, business simulations, and academic initiatives, ensuring all-round student development.
  • To provide a platform for students to enhance technical, analytical, and soft skills through workshops, competitions, and hands-on learning activities.
