Citizenship Training

Citizenship training aims to develop students' social responsibility in upholding societal law and order to create a healthy environment. To inculcate this virtue, the Students' Council and office-bearers are elected by the students.

Nonetheless, to maintain freedom from bias and politicking, the following norms are laid down and should be strictly observed:

• Candidates aspiring for the posts must have a good academic and disciplinary record (detailed rules will be formulated by the Election Commission).
• No candidate can profess affiliation to any political party or receive monetary or other support.
• Elections should be healthy contests in a spirit of fair play and create no animosity among students or classes.
• After the election, all students must respect the elected office-bearers and cooperate with them in the discharge of Council duties.

Student Council Elections
The annual Class Representative and Student Council elections at St. Joseph’s College of Commerce underscore the vital role of democratic student governance in higher education. Held in the month of June across undergraduate and postgraduate streams, the structured electoral process—from ERP nominations and scrutiny to campus voting—empowers the student body to actively select their leaders.
The Student Council elections invites full student body participation across 12 posts via ERP nominations, followed by thorough scrutiny and association head interviews. Following a smooth, transparent process, the results are announced in the end.

Registration Drive
To pursue value-driven Jesuit education, SJCC launched an impactful community service project. Following specialized training, student representatives and volunteers from NSS, CSA, and YDC organized a registration drive on Sunday, 5 July 2026. Partnering with Ashirvad Center, the team helped over 300 citizens enroll in the Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) scheme, securing ₹5 lakh in free healthcare coverage per family.

LEAD 2026 Immersion Program
On 11–12 September 2026, St. Joseph’s College of Commerce (Autonomous), Bangalore, joined hands with Loyola College Manvi, to conduct a two-day interactive leadership workshop titled "LEAD 2026 — Empowered to Lead, Inspired to Serve." Organised and executed by the SJCC Student Council and Extended Council in Manvi, the initiative specifically aimed to support rural, first-generation learners, and students from marginalised communities. Faculty members noted that while these participants demonstrated strong academic potential, limited prior exposure often created barriers to public speaking, peer communication, and assertive leadership.
The program used hands-on activities built around two daily themes: "Discover • Develop • Lead" and "Think • Act • Inspire." Early team games built trust, active listening, and delegation, while bridge-building and survival challenges trained students in conflict management and problem-solving under pressure.
Students also learned practical event management—covering planning, budgeting, and execution—using SJCC’s fests, Dhwani and Chanakya, as examples. Interactive activities like a "Golden Ticket" treasure hunt, wellness sessions, talent showcases, and teacher-student sports matches kept participants engaged while building strong mentorship connections.

The overall outcome demonstrated a marked shift in student engagement, self-expression, and confidence. By collaborating across mixed teams, participants broke through language hesitations, enhanced their problem-solving abilities, and learned to apply emotional intelligence in group dynamics. As highlighted by faculty and student leaders alike, the LEAD 2026 Immersion Program successfully equipped rural youth with practical tools, inspiring them to take ownership, work cooperatively, and drive meaningful student-led initiatives on their own campus.
